Women in Black Vigil
West Jerusalem.    1998.

The woman wearing the straw hat, is an Arab-Israeli Jew. She joked,"What an identity crisis I must have." The woman on the left is holding the same message in Hebrew, she is a European Israeli Jew. These two women are part of the Arab/Israeli women's group, Bat Shalom, nominated for the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for their "Women in Black" vigils. They get no press in the United States even though they have been protesting for more than fifteen years. There are dozens of Israeli peace groups whose voices are rarely allowed in the United States.
